Who this fits
This mid-level role suits an engineer who has operated production systems and wants to grow from defined tickets toward independently shaping work. You’ll get broad SRE responsibilities with guidance from staff engineers. Employees must be based in the United States, and the role requires two trips each year to the Los Angeles headquarters for company summits.
From the employer
THE ROLE
This Site Reliability Engineer role sits within our Platform Engineering team, as the team shifts from building new systems to running and maintaining what has already been built. You will start by picking up the active backlog of cost optimization work, then grow into SLI/SLO operations and eventually disaster recovery planning, with staff engineers mentoring you along the way. Because the team is small, you will get broad exposure across the full SRE scope rather than a narrow specialization, and the work you take on will shape how the platform runs well into 2027 and beyond. Success in the first year looks like moving from completing well-defined tickets to independently scoping and defining your own work, building the kind of foundation that has helped other engineers on this team grow into major contributors.
If you’ve read books like The Google SRE Handbook, The Phoenix Project, Accelerate, The DevOps Handbook, etc., this is the right place for you!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take ownership of the remaining cost optimization work that follows the team’s major cost-reduction efforts
- Monitor and respond to SLI/SLO alerts, such as Android/iOS purchase rate indicators, investigating anomalies as they come up
- Tune alert thresholds and windows, including suppressing low-traffic overnight alerts between 12 AM and 6 AM.
- Operate and maintain the team's existing Kubernetes and EKS infrastructure day to day.
- Support infrastructure as code work using Terraform.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and implementation as it comes onto the roadmap.
- Partner with product engineering teams to help them use AWS Bedrock and AWS Marketplace cost-effectively for AI workloads.
- Grow from completing tickets others define, to creating and closing your own, to eventually scoping work that other team members carry out.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Hands-on, day-to-day Kubernetes operations experience, with EKS experience preferred
- Solid working foundation in AWS, including IAM setup; general AWS certifications are a plus
- Working experience with Terraform or other infrastructure as code tooling
- Experience operating production systems rather than architecting them from scratc
- Exposure to or familiarity with Python as a growth area
- Familiarity with SRE fundamentals such as error budgets and SLIs/SLOs, or willingness to build this knowledge
- Exposure to FinOps or cloud cost management concepts as a growth area
- Demonstrated tenacity and ability to learn new tools and processes independently
- Openness to mentorship and a collaborative, dialogue-driven learning style rather than needing step-by-step instruction
