Role brief

devopsroles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Take major platform projects from initial design through customer production, covering SDKs, agents, job pipelines and related services
  • Advance the way teams create and maintain integrations, including through AI-enabled workflows
  • Set and uphold reliability, scaling and observability practices across agents and integrations
  • Create developer tools, packages and libraries that speed up integration development and adoption
  • Shape technical designs around customer needs with product, platform and customer success teams

What you bring

  • At least seven years in software engineering, including substantial work with distributed systems, developer platforms or integration frameworks
  • You have owned significant feature or subsystem architecture end to end and made the key design tradeoffs
  • You can build across backend services, SDKs, developer tools and agent-based systems
  • You have worked on edge platforms, especially Windows, and understand OS-specific concerns such as permissions, services and packaging
  • You are a US citizen or permanent resident living in the United States

Who this fits

This role suits a senior engineer ready to lead platform work across services, SDKs and agents, while mentoring teammates and shaping technical decisions. You’ll work with teams across the stack and carry features through to customer use. The role is remote within the United States, and applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents living there.

From the employer

Rockstar is recruiting for a company that builds a next-generation integrations platform for digital engineering. The platform enables hardware and software engineers to collaborate seamlessly by automating workflows and integrating tools. The company values high autonomy, cross-functional collaboration, and customer-centric design.

Position Overview

The company is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join its Integrations Platform team. The team owns the platform's "edge" — its software agent that runs on customer machines and implements the company's technology powering their end-to-end workflows by integrating and collaborating with their engineering tools.

At the company, engineers work across the process and across the stack. Anyone can propose a feature, and engineers implementing a feature work with partners throughout the organization to take that feature from inception to customer production systems and usage. The candidate will work and coordinate with other teams across the full stack — deployment infrastructure to server code to SDKs to running agents and modules in the wild across a variety of operating systems and deployment targets.

The team produces tools for hardware engineers to drive their work and for software engineers to provide additional automation to support that work. It's an ideal opportunity for a candidate who has a passion for both customer delight and API design. The candidate will help the company evolve the future of digital engineering by providing the tools its customers need to rapidly iterate as they build new technologies.

In short — this is a high-autonomy role. There are guardrails to respect, but the candidate will have a lot of latitude within those guardrails to get things done and see them used right away.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of major features and projects within the Integrations Platform — SDKs, agents, job pipelines, and related services — carrying them from inception through customer production.
  • Drive the evolution of the integration authoring experience, including AI-enabled workflows that scale how integrations are built and maintained.
  • Champion reliability, scalability, and observability practices across the agent ecosystem and integrations lifecycle, and hold the features built to that bar.
  • Build developer tooling, packages, and libraries that reduce friction and accelerate integration development and adoption.
  • Partner with product, platform, and customer success teams to translate customer needs into concrete technical designs for the features and projects led.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship — raise the engineering bar through design reviews, architecture input, and hands-on guidance.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives spanning workflow orchestration, service scaling, and job orchestration.
  • Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies and frameworks for integration authoring, automation, and platform capabilities.

Qualifications

The list below describes a candidate who would be an ideal match on every dimension. If a background matches only some of these — not all — the company would still encourage an application if the candidate thinks they can discharge the "Key Responsibilities."

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant time designing and scaling distributed systems, developer platforms, or integrations frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience owning the architecture of significant features or subsystems end-to-end — they have made the tradeoffs and lived with the consequences.
  • Strong coding ability across backend services, SDKs, developer tooling, and agent-based systems. Specific language experience isn't crucial — the stack is primarily Python, with a growing share in Go, key components in Java and C#, and a TypeScript/React front end.
  • Experience working on edge platforms — Windows especially, plus Linux (desktop and server) and macOS — including low-level platform and administrative considerations (permissions, services/daemons, packaging, filesystem quirks) unique to each OS.
  • Experience working with multiple orchestration models for distributed systems (e.g., DAG-based schedulers, event-driven pipelines, actor systems, queue-based task workers) would be ideal.
  • Hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted development or agentic workflow systems.
  • Strong grounding in system reliability, security, and performance optimization for developer-facing platforms.
  • A track record of technical leadership and mentorship — they have grown engineers and shaped practices within their team, not just shipped code.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across the teams they work with.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident living within the United States.
