devopsroles summary, based on the employer's posting.
What you'll do
- Build and operate the observability platform, extending OpenTelemetry Collector components and creating services, APIs and tooling
- Analyze telemetry pipelines to find cost savings, set guardrails and work with engineering teams to apply them
- Create developer tools that surface insights from large telemetry volumes and support AI and agent-based systems
- Set reliability targets for the platform, take on-call shifts and lead responses to serious incidents
What you bring
- At least five years building and running production software at scale, preferably infrastructure or platforms used by engineers
- You can deliver production code in Go or Python and read code in the other language
- You have extended OpenTelemetry and instrumented applications using its SDKs
- You have operated distributed applications on cloud platforms, with containers and orchestration such as Docker or Kubernetes
- You can own on-call for an observability stack and lead high-severity incident response
Who this fits
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role for someone who builds and operates platform software. You’ll share on-call responsibility and lead responses to high-severity incidents. The role is based in Bucharest, Romania.
From the employer
The Team
We are a globally distributed team inside Adobe Developer Platforms. We own the observability platform Adobe's engineering ecosystem runs on – one of the largest logging deployments in the industry, spanning 50,000+ nodes, billions of OTel events daily, and an auth service we built in Go that handles 15,000 req/sec. Every Adobe engineer depends on what we ship.
We build it, we ship it, we run it.
The Opportunity
- Compose, build, and run Adobe's observability platform at scale
- Write Go and Python: extend OpenTelemetry Collector receivers, processors, and exporters, contribute to open-source, and build the internal services, APIs, and tooling around them
- Drive cost optimisation: analyse pipeline data, build guardrails, and engage engineering teams
- Build developer-facing tooling and services, including AI-powered insight from high-volume telemetry and observability for AI and agent-based systems
- Own SLOs and SLIs for a platform thousands of engineers rely on every day
- Own on-call, lead incident response for high-severity issues, and make every shift better than the last
What you'll Do
- Strong, hands-on Go and/or Python. Our platform is predominantly Go — the OpenTelemetry Collector, Cortex, Prometheus, and Kubernetes all are — and Python carries much of our tooling. You should be able to contribute production code in at least one, and read the other
- 5–8+ years building and owning production software at scale, ideally platform or infrastructure products used by other engineers
- Build, code review, and automated testing coordinated into how you ship, not a separate phase
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry — not just configuring collectors, but extending them and instrumenting applications with the SDKs
- Working knowledge of large-scale logging infrastructure — Splunk, ClickHouse, New Relic, Prometheus, LangSmith
- Experience developing, deploying, and running distributed applications on cloud platforms; experience with container and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Comfortable owning on-call across a multi-tool observability stack, including leading Sev 1/2 incident response
What you need to succeed
- Experience evaluating and prototyping alternative Observability platforms, both commercial and open-source
- Experience with other Observability tooling like Grafana, Cortex, ElasticSearch, DataDog, VictoriaMetrics, Mimir
- TypeScript/React — we ship an observability plugin in Adobe's Developer Home (based on Backstage)
- Experience instrumenting AI/LLM or agent-based systems, nice to have
